The 30th annual Jacksonville Tomato Fest kicked off Saturday morning.

More than 200 tomato vendors lined the streets to sell these famous Jacksonville tomatoes. KETK spoke with the President of the Tomato Fest, Robin Butt, who said, "Oh it's just amazing. It started out early this morning, the venders were coming in, and the people were following right in behind them".

The hungry crowd couldn't wait to get their hands on the award-winning fruits. One guest mentioned, "We love the tomato fest! We come every year". Another said, " We're in Austin and you can buy local grown down there, but they can't even compete with Jacksonville". A unanimous group agreed there is just no contest when it comes to the taste of Jacksonville tomatoes. One man said, "Oh they are the best. the best in the country. The best BLT you'll ever have is with a Jacksonville tomato".

This explains the large turnout for the Tomato Fest anniversary. Butt said, "Well last year we estimated close to 30 thousand, and this year, by the response we had previously, I think we're going to well go over that this year. So it's just exciting".

So Jacksonville proves it's a small town, with a big bite.
