Pedestrian killed in ETX traffic accident

Palestine, TX (KETK) — One person is dead following an early morning traffic accident in Palestine.
On Sunday morning, just after midnight officers from the Palestine Police Department responded to a traffic accident on Crockett Road at Oakland Street.
Officers arrived on the scene and found that a young man was walking down the street and was hit by a truck.
The male subject who has not yet been identified was said to have been walking northbound along the street.
The truck was traveling northbound in the outside lane of travel. The man was struck by the truck as he walked along the roadway.
Members of the local fire department and EMS arrived on scene to treat the victim.
The victim had serious injuries from the impact and died at the scene.
Justice of the Peace Carl Davis pronounced the young man dead.
Judge Davis ordered an autopsy be conducted at the medical examiner’s office in Tyler, Texas.
The driver of the truck was not injured and name of the truck driver will not be released at this time.
The exact cause of the accident is still under investigation, including why the victim was in the roadway.
The driver of the truck has cooperated with police concerning the accident. There was also another person walking with the victim at the time of the accident. Police have talked with this possible witness in an attempt to piece together what took place.
Texas Department of Public Safety Trooper Lynn Hubert is assisting with the investigation.
