Birth Control is a controversial topic. In fact, preventing pregnancy is readily available at your local pharmacy.

We are not talking about the pack of daily prescribed birth control, we are talking about the 'Morning After Pill", an emergency contraceptive pill.

Many people don't want the responsibility of taking a daily birth control pill or practice safe sex.

The dosage of the 'Morning After Pill' is several times the strength of a daily birth control.

It's purpose is to be taken is unplanned and irresponsible sex occurs within five-days, 120 hours.

The pill comes in two forms, one pill of progestin, and a combination pill, two pills of progestin and estrogen.

Hope Short, MD, Short Family Medical Group tells KETK,

"I think it's foolish to use it for regular, just regular form of birth control, I think it's a very effective form of birth control in event of condom failure or sexual assault."

"It's not probably not a good idea necessarily to be over the counter, you need to be informed how to take it, take it properly."

Some possible side effects taking the emergency contraceptive is bleeding, nausea and vomiting.

Short tells KETK, if you need information or have concerns of irresponsible or unplanned sex, visit a doctor.

Many women choose not to take the daily birth control for several reasons, so they take the "Morning After Pill' whenever they want as many times as they want.

It's very easy to get your hands on this pill because it's sold over-the-counter, and it can be harmful.
