Gov. Rick Perry has sent a letter to President Barack Obama to appeal the denial of major disaster declaration for Texas in the wake of this year's devastating wildfires.

Perry sent the letter to the president Thursday. In a statement issued by his office, Perry says the state "continues to be impacted by the worst wildfire season in recent memory."

He urged the president "to reconsider and approve our request for federal assistance in fighting these fires," calling it a federal duty "to assist Texas in its response efforts."

White House spokesman Jay Carney has said the Obama administration has been "extremely responsive" to Texas by providing at least 25 wildfire management assistance grants.

Why is Obama making this a personal vandetta against Perry? The only ones that should matter are the poor people who lost everything in the fires. The only reason Obama doesn't care about Texas is that he knows that he can't win an election here. If he doesn't get votes, then screw the people here. But because Joplin gets to much media attention, there's Obama in front of the cameras...

Perry "shot himself in the foot" denying Texas a slice of the fiscal pie offered by the fed. gov't. when he thumbed his nose at the offer and suggesting Texas should secede from the U.S....he has no one to blame but himself, and we can now thank him for his disastrous mismanagement of our tax dollars...education cuts, medicaid, nursing home and unemployment compensation cuts, etc. all fall at perry's $10,000/month doorstep. He's a disaster as governor/more so as a presidential contender.
