Perry visits families of fallen soldiers

HAWKINS — Two-year-old Omar Aceves Jr. probably didn’t know who Gov. Rick Perry was when he ran up and grabbed him by the leg Thursday morning at Allaso Ranch. The youngster just knew he had a good time at camp that week and he wanted to hug the man talking to the crowd.
Omar’s father was a Staff Sergeant in the Army 7th Engineer Battalion who was killed Jan. 12, 2011, when an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) exploded during an attack in Afghanistan. Leticia Aceves is a single parent raising four children — Omar Jr., Noel, Olivia, and Zaniel.
