TYLER - "In my experience this is one of the worst flea seasons in recent history."
Dr. Laura Cauthen is a local veterinarian, and an influx of pest has her attention.
"I think because we didn't have much a winter this year, the fleas are the worst we've ever seen."
She say's she's run into so many animals looking for a little relief, and she isn't the only one seeing the problem.
"We're seeing a lot of fleas this year", says one East Texan.
Pet owners across East Texas are dealing with the problem the best they can. One pet owner tells KETK, "Just buy a spray and and give them the baths, just what ever you've got to do."
The fight just seems to be getting worse. Besides fleas, some folks are noticing an increase in mesqutoes.
"If you're sitting out on the deck, yea they'll get after you." Another East Texan says "It's increasing, the mesquitoes are getting thicker."
So as pet owners, and knowing that bugs are out to get our pets, what's the answer. Dr. Cauthen says to tackle the problem you've got to hit several different areas.
"Treating the house the yard, the pet all at once to try and prevent flea infestation and ticks you have to do environmental control as well as controlling the pet."
