TYLER, TEXAS (KETK) — Pets Fur People held their 15th Annual "Pets in the Park" at Bergfeld Park in Tyler on Saturday.
It's a special day for pets. Social gatherings aren't just for people, but they are for our furry pets too.
East Texans brought their dogs to the park and for a full day of fun.
Gayle Helms, Executive Director of Pets Fur People tells KETK, Blessing of the Animals started at 10:30 a.m. Fun pet contests were held throughout the day, Weeney Dog Races and a lure course.
"It's a way to have more people be aware of Pets Fur People, you know we actually are more than just an animal shelter, we are really involved in the community," says Helms.
Helms says, there has been so much community support.
"We started out with a blessing of our animals at 10:30, that's always great, contests and vendors, demonstrations from Tyler Obedience Training Club, says Helms.
"We have a horrible stray and over population here in East Texas of dogs and cats, and this is important to show people there are a lot of animals out there that need homes," says Dr. Sharon Phillips of Tyler Veterinary Center.
