Justin Kniffen has seen Randi Carrol Phillips pitch enough to know a couple of things: Phillips isn’t the typical freshman, and once she gets a lead the game is basically over for the opponent.

On Wednesday, Phillips got an early lead and joined some select company by throwing a perfect game to lead the Harleton Ladycats to a 5-0 win over Hubbard in a Class A semifinal game at the UIL State Softball Tournament.
