Pine Tree Independent School District held two community meetings Wednesday.

On the agenda: discussing the newly opened Athletic Director position.

"To us, this Fall was very disappointing and we don't want to make any mistakes," said concerned parent Tracy Hays.

"It's really important for us to get community input," said Asst. Superintendent James Skeeler.

Former Athletic Director Derek Fitzhenry resigned in October amidst controversy.

Pine Tree is encouraging parents and the community to fill out a survey they have set up online, which will be available until Dec. 13.

Pine Tree administrators said they have not posted the position officially, because they want to collect feedback from the survey first.

"That's what we will base our interview questions off of and also reference that quite a bit as were finding the candidate for the position," said Skeeler.

A few concerned parents spoke out and said the survey doesn't cover everything it should, including how the school handled some past situations with the former Athletic Director.

Parents said they want someone who will make Pine Tree their home and stay in the community, not use the school as a stepping stone to another job.

"These are memories their making. It's a lifetime of looking back at what you do," said concerned parent Scott Harris.

The position is open to anyone who wants to apply and they expect to get at least a 100 applications.

Interim Athletic Director, Derrick Hennigan says he will be applying.

The school hopes to hire someone before March of next year.
