Pine Tree Independent School District is asking for the communitiy's input as they continue their search for a new Athletic Director.

The school said they want the community to weigh in on who they think would fit the role as the head of their athletic program.

Former Athletic Director Derek Fitzhenry resigned October 18, after a 2013 season full of scandal and controversy.

The school district will hold two meetings in the Community Center Room at the Pine Tree Central Administration building located at 1701 Pine Tree Road in Longview.

The meeting times are as follows:

  • Wednesday, December 4, 12:00 p.m., -12:45 p.m.
  • Wednesday, December 4, 6:30 p.m., - 7:15 p.m.

James Skeeler, Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources, will serve as facilitator.

"The purpose of the meetings is to gather feedback and learn what traits our staff and our community would like to see in an Athletic Director for PTISD," Skeeler said.

A survey is also available for staff and community to communicate either with an online survey or in hard copy. After the meetings are completed and the survey closes on December 13th, a summary of the feedback will be compiled for use during the interview process. View the online survey at the district webpage,

The district will post the job in December, 2013. The interviews, conducted by Pine Tree ISD administration, are targeted for mid-January through the first of February, 2014. The expectation is to hire a new AD by February or March, 2014.
