Pine Tree ISD board OKs adding stadium parking
Longview, TX — The Pine Tree ISD board of trustees voted 5-2 Monday night to add 20 additional parking spaces to Pirate Stadium as well as flumes for drainage.
The additions are expected to cost about $94,000 and the funds will come from the remaining practice field expansion budget in the 2011 bond election.
The 20 extra parking spaces will be built behind the field house and will serve coaches, staff and game officials during sporting events, said Tony Hollins, director of facility services for the district.
The flumes will keep the grass parking area and surrounding stadium area from excessive flooding.
Trustees Terre Dunn and Amy Brown cast the dissenting votes with Dunn saying the district should do more.
“I think we are stopping short of what we need to do,” Dunn said.
The board had also considered a $300,000 proposal to turn the grass parking area into 378 hard surface parking spaces to be built with reclaimed asphalt from TxDOT. The board chose not to vote on that option at this time.
Board member Charley Peck said he did not see the need to pave the grass parking areas when the Lear Park parking spaces are available to the district.
