Coffee City, Tx — UPDATE (Monday, 9:40am): Emergency management officials tell KETK, water has been restored to most of the houses that were without water for most of Sunday evening and early Monday morning.
Authorities say that they were able to localize the leak around midnight, but it was too dark and hazardous to correct the damage, due to the fact that it was in a creek bed.
Crews were forced to shut off water to about 100 houses until it was safe enough to repair the leak.
Officials have since repaired the busted pipe, which was caused by a pine tree growing over it.
Water service has been restored to all Coffee City customers.
ORIGINAL STORY: The Red Cross tells KETK, 60 to 80 homes in southeastern Coffee City are currently without water.
A shelter has been set up by the Red Cross at the Coffee City Community Center along Pleasant Ridge Road, just east of city hall.
Residents affected can receive drinking water, hot coffee and snacks.
The Red Cross says, Monarch water crews are currently working to fix the problem and the shelter will remain open until that happens.
