Tyler — Brookshire Grocery Co. officials say its stores, including Brookshire's and Super 1 Food stores in East Texas, will no longer sell ground beef containing lean finely textured beef, commonly referred to as 'pink slime'.
The beef product is expected to be totally phased out of local stores by mid-April.
A spokesperson with Brookshire's told KETK that if customers want to be sure they're not buying meat containing 'pink slime', they should buy the store's premium ground beef.
While the USDA has said the meat is indeed safe to eat, consumer feedback about the beef product to Brookshires Grocery has been negative, leading to this decision.
