Pipelines, wells a concern in quake-hit area
Timpson — Continuing earthquakes around this Shelby County town — 16 since July 2011 — are raising concerns among both residents and researchers.
Three tremors ranging from 2.4 to 4.3 on the Richter Scale were reported just since Monday.
Timpson is located in the Haynesville shale formation — a hotbed of activity for natural gas exploration and extraction. The area is crisscrossed with oil and gas wells, horizontal wells, salt water injection and commercial disposal wells in addition to a spider web of gas gathering, transmission and distribution lines.
