A Gladewater woman from whom more than 70 animals were seized in May is now asking community members to donate their unwanted pets to her, police said Monday.

Gladewater Police Chief Robert Vine said the department received a call Saturday from a resident on Sanders Street regarding the presence of a suspicious woman claiming to be the organizer of an animal shelter group.

Vine confirmed the woman was Linda Luker, who along with Carol Pinckert, had been organizers of a makeshift animal shelter in rural Gladewater. The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, on May 8, seized 64 dogs, six cats and a horse from Pinckert and Luker after conditions were deemed to be unfit for the animals.

The resident who called about Luker, Vine said, told police that notes were being placed on vehicles and the woman was trying to let dogs out of yards.
