Police to crack down on red light running
October 28, 2009 - 5:02pm
TYLER — November will see red light enforcement intensify in Tyler, and now the boys in blue have the resources.
The Tyler Police Department received a special state grant for increased enforcement of red light violations and that means more personnel available to keep an eye on particularly troublesome intersections.
last year, nearly 3,000 drivers were cited for cruising through on red earning themselves a $300 fine.
Here are the list of intersections affected by the grant.
1. Loop 323 & Broadway
2. Loop 323 & W. Front
3. Loop 323 & W. Erwin
4. S. Broadway & 4th - 5th
5. Loop 323 & 69 North
6. S. Broadway & Shiloh/Rice
7. Loop 323 & Troup Hwy.
8. Loop 323 & Copeland
9. E. Fifth & Fleishel
10. W. Gentry & Parkdale
11. Church & M.L. King
12. Loop 323 & Paluxy
13. E. Fifth & Beckham

Have they realized that there would probably be fewer red light runners if the lights were synchronized? Synchronized lights would also keep the flow of traffic going. This has been a problem in Tyler for quite sometime. So perhaps instead of using the money putting the "boys in blue" at these intersections during the month of November they should use the money to invest in a competent, qualified traffic engineer.

5 months agoI don't now if its is Tyler police or County sheriffs office but whoever's area it is should look into the intersection of HWY 31 and 2661. I go thru that intersection everday twice and if you ever pull straight out on a green light your gonna get hit.
