Police: Home invasion overnight at Tyler apartments

TYLER — PRESS RELEASE:
November 13, 2011 at approximately 2:07 a.m, Tyler Police Department received a telephone call regarding a burglary in progress at 2051 W. Cumberland Rd. (Cumberland Place Apartment Complex). Within minutes officers were on scene, but the suspect had fled the area prior to their arrival. The apartment complex and surrounding area was searched, but a suspect could not be located. Officers contacted the victim, who stated she was asleep in her bedroom and awoke to find a man sitting on top of her. According to the victim, she struggled with the suspect for several minutes before retrieving a gun and fired one round in the direction of the suspect. It is believed the suspect was not injured during the incident; however, the victim did sustain minor injuries and was treated by EMS at the scene. Unfortunately the victim was not able to provide a description of the suspect.
Anyone with information about the suspect involved in this crime are urged to contact the Tyler Police Department, at 903-531-1000, or Crimestoppers, at 903-597-CUFF (903-597-2833). Crimestoppers will pay up to $1,000 for information that leads to the arrest and charges filed against the suspects in this case, or any, felony case.
