Police ID deputy as suspect in Marshall shooting
Marshall — A Harrison County sheriff’s deputy was identified Monday as the suspected gunman in a Sunday shooting, according to the Marshall Police Department.
Matthew Hasler, 32, was taken to the Marshall Police Department for further investigation after the 2 a.m. Sunday shooting outside of Charlie’s BackYard Bar in the 300 block of North Columbus Street, police said. The victim, 20-year-old Trey Austin Rogers, was listed in critical condition Monday evening at Good Shepherd Medical Center in Longview, a hospital spokesman said.
Hasler was off-duty at the time of the shooting, according to the Harrison County District Attorney’s Office.
But according to Lt. Jay Webb of the Harrison County Sheriff’s Office, Hasler resigned Friday.
