A 20-year-old male was arrested Thursday afternoon after he fled from a traffic stop on Texas 135, said Gregg County Sheriff Maxey Cerliano.

Cerliano said a deputy stopped an eastbound late model Lexus for a traffic violation.

“The passenger immediately fled when the car stopped,” Cerliano said.

Deputies and state troopers were able to locate and apprehend the passenger less than 30 minutes later on West Point Road just south of Interstate 20 after people in the area alerted deputies to the suspects whereabouts, Cerliano said.

The passenger was booked into the county jail on an outstanding warrant for a parole violation and evading arrest or detention.

“The driver was cooperative with deputies. He was ticketed and allowed to continue on his way,” Cerliano said.

The passenger’s name has not been released pending arraignment.
