Police officer falls from bridge during traffic stop
NBC — Missouri city police say officer Kenneth Lewis and another officer had pulled over a driver just after midnight friday and were on the side of the highway when another vehicle slammed into their patrol car.
Police Lt. Paul Poulton says it's not immediately clear if Lewis was thrown from the bridge by the impact of the crash or jumped to get out of the way.
He was taken by helicopter to a Houston hospital.
At last report, he was in serious but stable condition.
Authorities say the driver of the car in the initial stop also was hurt and taken to a hospital.
According to sugar land police, 46-year-old Christie Diane Biggers was intoxicated when she crashed into the back of the officer's patrol car.
She has been charged with intoxication assault, and transported to fort Bend County Jail.
Fort Bend ISD confirmed Biggers is employed with the district and is a P.E. teacher at Scanlan Oaks Elementary School.
