Police warn of IRS scam in East Texas
Nacogdoches, Texas (KETK) — The Nacogdoches Police Department is warning the public of a telephone scam being reported in the area.
Complainants told police a caller, with a middle-eastern accent, claims to be an agent with the Internal Revenue Service. The con artist then tells the victim they are in immediate danger of arrest if they do not submit a money order to the caller. Some of the callers even have a Washington D.C. area code programmed as their number.
Authorities say the calls originate outside the United States and is a con.
Police stated if you are ever contacted by the IRS about taxes, it will first be by mail.
