KTBB News Anchor Garth Maier asks East Texans if the President's comments on the case of the arrest of a Harvard Professor were our of place and unwarranted.
I'm sick of clueless white people. All the people here calling Prof. Gates and Pres. Obama racists are a bunch of disgusting bigots and you all should be ashamed of yourselves.
Keep hiding in your lily white minds and believe that you know everything about racism and bigotry. Then look in the mirror and prove yourselves wrong.

8 months agoI praise Mr. Gates neighbors and the police. That was an awesome job by the police and it only became a problem when Mr. Gates behaved like a moron. Racism is and will be a problem in the entire world. Not "just because" of whites though. My children were never taught of different races and my daughter thought everyone was varying shades of brown (whites included). It wasn't until kindergarten when the blacks taught her about being prejudice did we even discuss it. She came home crying because this girl told her she was white and couldn't play with them. So point the finger back at yourselves when you start screaming racism!

8 months agoI think he was wrong for opening his mouth before he had all the facts, but isn't that one of the things that a racist and a politician have in commom. By the way, I noticed that about 1/2 of the first 16 responses to your question failed to answer it. It kinda reminds me of congressmen.

9 months agoI think this was an unfortunate situation. I can understand this Gates fellow getting upset, as we was in his own home. However, the police did not know who he has and simply asked for his ID. Mr. Gates became angry and refused which put the police on the defensive. I dont think this case had anything at all to due with racism and the president acted stupidly in trying to turn it into one. He owes the police an apology.

9 months agoThe President is right and we need to start talking about racism in America and grasp the concepts of what it means to be american. I know what happened was wrong not even having all the facts b/c this happens every day in america. If the officer was so right why were the charges dropped?

I mean if the police is asking someone for ID you show freakin ID because the scholar is from havard and black doesn't give HIM any more right than a school teacher that is whte mexican pink alien whatever tell me Mr. Prez how is that racial profiling when the man was doing he's respected job yes we still have racist in america but blacks can be just as racist as whites and mexicans and so forth SOME PEOPLE USE IT AS AN EXCUSE TO SHOW THERE ASS " IT WAS BECAUSE I'M BLACK IS A BULLSHIT STATEMENT AND SHOULD BE FINED FOR USING IT"

8 months agoNo, he was not wrong. Anyone with half a brain can see that what happened to Professor Gates was a result of racial prejudice and white privilege. If Gates were a white man, the police officer would have looked at his I.D., apologized for the inconvenience, and walked away.

8 months agoFirst of all, an older gentleman with a cane can hurt you as well as a young man without!! Has Mr. Gates or B.O. stopped to think of the quick responce of the police to protect his home and Possibly Mr. Gates himself... I feel Mr. Gates should have swallowed whatever issue HE HAS with White Americans and Thanked the police for arriving in such a timely manner, showed his ID and left it alone.. I have watched a Documentary by Mr. Gates in an African Humanities class in College and I was taken back at the continued finger pointing at the white race in America.. If anyone is a " ROGUE" person it would be him.. Sure he is educated but is he teaching Black Americans that those days are over or keeping tragedy alive to thrive in the Black American communities? I praise all the Officers that were at the scene to protect an American home and its contents.. Watch his Documentary.. its quite shocking how he acts in it...
