LUFKIN, Texas - A hospital spokeswoman says former Rep. Charlie Wilson of Texas has died at the age of 76.
The Trinity native served in Congress for the second district of Texas for more than two decades.
Wilson was nicknamed 'Good Time Charlie' for his partying ways
Wilson was chronicled in the 2007 "Charlie Wilson's War" for his efforts efforts to arm Afghani Mujahedeen, then called "Freedom Fighters," during Afghanistan's war against the Soviet Union in 1980s.
People in deep East Texas remember him for his slogan, 'Taking Care of the Home Folk'.
Wilson served as a Navy lieutenant before working in the timber business and serving as a lawmaker in Austin as well.
Wilson lived in Lufkin with his wife Barbara.
A spokeswoman says he died of cardiopulmonary arrest.
