Iran Rules Out Annuling Election Results
June 23, 2009 - 8:12am
IRAN- Iranian State T.V. Reports the country's top electoral authority has ruled out annulling the results of the presidential election.
Authorities say there was no major fraud in the vote.
Meanwhile, new video emerged from demonstrations in Tehran where there are no signs of police cracking down on the protestors. However, eyewitnesses report police have attacked people with tear gas.
According to Iranian officials, at least 17 protestors have died so far.
In Washington, D.C., some senators are praising President Obama for making it clear that the U.S. has nothing to do with the unrest in Iran. An election review announced on Monday concludes that President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad would have won even without disputed ballots in 50 districts.
However, Republican Sen. John Cornyn of Texas had a tougher message for the President.
"I'm glad to see the President ratcheting up his remarks to make it clear we stand with the Iranian people," said Cornyn.
