Irish politicians walk out on Clinton
BELFAST— Two politicians walked out of Secretary of State Hillary Clinton's address Monday in Belfast, Ireland.
Clinton spoke to officials about existing problems between Catholics and Protestants.
"Even today many Catholics and Protestants live segregated lives; separate schools, separate neighborhoods. Some still divided by walls. But given time - and given the leadership that each of you can provide - the torn fabric of this society will be woven together, stitch by stitch, choice by choice," Clinton said.
At the end of her speech, Clinton got a standing ovation. However, two men stood up with their arms folded and walked out.
The men were from the major Protestant-backed party, the Democratic Unionists.
The move reflected Protestant irritation at being told what to do by outsiders.
The Democratic Unionist officials claim they made the same point earlier in private to Clinton.
i agree with the two men that walked out.
it's ireland's problem; let them handle it.
just more wasted american tax payers money.
if that's all she has to do; let's find
something else for her to do
