Should Public Schools allow the President's Speech to be heard by Students?
East Texans Sound-Off about Tuesday morning's speech by the President Aimed at Students.
September 8, 2009 - 9:05am
Tyler—
What do you think about the President's Speech to our nation's public school students?

Past USA president just like any other President make speeches and visiting the schools; Currently Mr. Obama's speech is no different. Therefore, the school should allow the kids to hear him out! If a school accept Federal Funding; it should be allow. I think the schools are being discriminating......

DEMOCRAT,REPUBLICAN,JEW,REDNECK,BLUE COLLAR,WHITE COLLAR,CONSERVATIVE...IT DOESN'T MATTER ABOUT THAT WITH ANY PRESIDENT..IT IS ABOUT RIGHT AND WRONG...IT IS ABOUT HIS SOCIALISM AND CROOKS HE IS INVOLVED WITH.....AND ABOUT TURNING THIS COUNTRY AWAY FROM EVERYTHING IT WAS BUILT ON...CRAP PEOPLE...WAKE UP,TAKE OFF THE BLINDERS...YOU GOT HIM IN OFFICE,AND CAN'T SEE THE FOREST FOR THE TREES.YOU WOULD KNOW,A DEMOCRAT IS SCREAMING ABOUT POLITICAL PARTIES,INSTEAD OF LOOKING AT WHY PEOPLE HAVE A PROBLEM WITH THAT NUT! IT IS NOT ABOUT PARTIES...IT IS NOT ABOUT PARTIES....IT IS NOT ABOUT PARTIES.....I NEED TO TYPE THIS ABOUT A MILLION MORE TIMES AND IT MIGHT SINK IN A HALF INCH....MAYBE!

6 months agoJMO, CENSORSHIP, THE PATRIOT ACT, PLACING CHIPS IN YOUR DRIVERS LICENS (HOMELAND SECURITY-SUPPORTED BY G. W. BUSH AND GOVERNOR PERRY) ARE ALL COMMUNISTIC BEHAVIORS. COMMUNISIAM IS A LOT WORSE THAN SOCIALISM!! SO, WHY DIDN'T YOU AND WHY ARE YOU NOT SCREAMING ABOUT THOSE ISSUES? MRS. PALIN IS ALSO A BIG FAN OF CENSORSHIP IF YOU WILL RECALL, SHE BANNED HARRY POTTER BOOKS FROM THE PUBLIC LIBRARY IN WASILLA AS THE MAYOR. MY CHILD WAS DENIED THE CHOICE TO VIEW OR NOT TO VIEW THE PRESIDENT'S SPEECH, THE LOCAL GOVERNMENT DECIDED FOR HER. THAT IS CENSORSHIP MY FRIEND!!! IN A DEMOCRECY THE PEOPLE GET TO CHOOSE WHAT THEY SEE AND HEAR AND MAKE UP THEIR OWN MINDS AS WHAT TO BELIEVE OR NOT BELIEVE. IN A DICTATORSHIP, THE GOVERNMENT TELLS YOU WHAT YOU CAN SEE OR HEAR AND EVEN WHAT TO BELIEVE. I THINK THAT PAQRENTS HAVE BAD MOUTHED PRESIDENT OBAMA, BRAINWASHED THEIR CHILDREN AND ARE AFRAID THAT THEIR CHILDREN WOULD HAVE SEEN THAT PRESIDENT OBAMA IS NOT AS BAD AS THEIR PARENTS HAS TOLD THEM. YES JMO, I HAVE HEARD SEVERAL REPUBLICANS THAT I WORK WITH (A COUPLE HUNDRED) STATE "I AIN'T GONNA LET MY KIDS LISTEN TO THAT BLACK MAN". IT IS ABOUT RACE, PARTY AND IGNORANCE.
WHAT IS CENSORSHIP?Censorship -- the control of the information and ideas circulated within a society -- HAS BEEN A HALLMARK OF DICTATORSHIPS THROUGHOUT HISTORY. In the 20th Century, censorship was achieved through the examination of books, plays, films, television and radio programs, news reports, and other forms of communication for the purpose of altering or suppressing ideas found to be objectionable or offensive. The rationales for censorship have varied, with some censors targeting material deemed to be indecent or obscene; heretical or blasphemous; or seditious or treasonous. Thus, ideas have been suppressed under the guise of protecting three basic social institutions: the family, the church, and the state.

6 months agoI certainly understand why, with this particular President's speech, it stirs such misgivings and mistrust. This President has surrounded himself with far left radicals and extremists and seems intent on taking our nation (and our freedom) into socialism. He has already proven he has no problems with using children as political pawns and condones the victimization of any and all who may voice their opinion against his views or plans. I agree he should be able to address the children, just as other previous Presidents have done so, as long as it is an uplifting and inspiring message regarding education... with NO political "agenda" or "strings". He has accomplished a lot and could be very effective in encouraging our children with their educational goals... BUT, his past (and present) associations and views make for a very careful evaluation of exactly what he really intends to impart to our children... OUR FUTURE GENERATION. Therefore, his speech should be screened and approved by parents before being presented to young, impressionable minds.

I read the President's speech on line yesterday and watched CNN as he gave the speech this morning. The parents who kept their children home today, and the school districts who chose not to present the speech to their students, have deprived them of a brilliant message that would be of tremendous value to their education and indeed to their future as educated, productive and responsible citizens. By the very virtue of the President's message to American school students, the protestors have been made to look ignorant and paranoid. How sad"!

Why 56 is allowing themselves to be his launching pad is puzzling to me.

6 months agoThe bottom line is he is in office. An even if you do not like him as a person or you are mad at him for even being in office. You have to respect his position as the President of the United States. I don't have to ask why is it that people are lashing out so much I know why. There are alot of reasons, but one reason for sure is becaues he is a democrat. No other President that addressed the schools or our children ever had this problem. They, talking about those who are against him speaking, don't want him saying anything to their children. Now that is the real side of it. What are they afraid of? If he makes a mistake we have to remember he is still a man and in being a man u will make mistakes. No one is perfect. Bush in his 8 years sent us into a great depression, an that is not an over statment it is a proven fact. Yet that fact is looked over, and it did not happen over night. He got away with it for years. Now it is going to take years to get us out of this mess. People need to just grow up an stop acting like children all the time. Our President is doing an outstanding job based on all he had to do going into it we already have signs of coming out. Hats off Mr. President.
