The US Postal Service had some big announcements yesterday about changes to mail service.
But the latest hits pretty close to home.
If you want to see the Tyler Postal Service Processing Center, it’s in Owentown,  just off I-20.
But look quickly, because by Spring, it will be empty.
The US Postal Service is on track to lose nearly $14-billion this year.
Since we all use email now, they have to change, at least as much as Congress will allow.
Yesterday we told you about the changes to delivery in first class mail. That it would be roughly a day later than before.
Now we know why. The Post Office is closing processing plants all over the country, including this one in Owentown.
254 people work here, so what happens to them.
According to the Postal Service, they will either retire or be absorbed elsewhere.
But, those new jobs may be across the country.
That leaves some tough decision for many who aren’t quite ready to hang it up or are not prepared to move to where the new job is.
But in this economy, there is really no choice.
The closures are still to be approved by the Postal Governing Board, which is a committee of Congress.
But they are expected to start shutting down in April.
