To get folks away from the "Obamacare" computer glitches, the debt ceiling is now the most important thing in the world.

It seems like Harry Reid and the president are leading the charge for raising the debt ceiling so we won't be, in the presidents words, "deadbeats."

It’s funny how a little time can change things. It was just a few years back, around 2006, when the economy was so bad.

I'm kidding. The horrible unemployment rate was 5.4 percent.

George W. Bush was in office and we were arguing about the debt ceiling back then.

Here is what the “honorable “senator from Illinois had to say about the debt ceiling back then:

'The fact that we are here today to debate raising America's debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the US Government cannot pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government's reckless fiscal policies. Increasing America's debt weakens us domestically and internationally. Leadership means that "the buck stops here." Instead, Washington is shifting the burden of bad choices today onto the backs of our children and grandchildren. America has a debt problem and a failure of leadership. Americans deserve better.'

Chalk this down as a time I agree with the president, well, make that Senator Barack Obama, back then.

That's my point of view what's yours?

First, I've been critical of Bush economic policies especially the "stimulus". Keynesian economics is bad economics, it has been since the 1920's, and Obama is chasing after it like an addict after a fix. second, talking about "owning it", try owning that stupid has added a third of that 17trillion since 2008.

By the way. Where are the protests about the MLK and FDR memorials being closed? Are they not closed like the WWII memorial? Are they not the correct political targets? If they are closed, are there no protesters? If there are, why is there no news stories?

Speaker Bonehead is now begging Obama to give him a way out and save face too...Obama should let them sleep in the bed they made for themselves.

What is your opinion on the the republican approval rating Neal? Funny how time changes everything!!

Deficit spending for our infrastructure wouldn't be a problem. Deficit spending to give money away to foreign countries is stupid. It's like using a credit card to give to charity. The number one job of both houses of congress should be passing a budget and improving the American economy.

Thanks for proving my original point.

It's just the status quo, if GOP's do it, it's a heinous crime, if Dems do the exact same thing, it's heroic.

jp, what is your opinion on the the republican approval rating? Funny how time changes everything!!

(Remember the GOP using the Gallup poll to make their points in the last election?)

Easy, the GOP leadership and the likes of McCain have turned their backs on their conservative base and is calling them "extremists". They are so trying hard to look like Dems they are alienating their base.
It wasn't the love of Obama that got him re-elected, but the dislike of Romney. As a customer of mine said, "He was campaigning on job creation to a country that doesn't want to work."

jp it not the McCains as much as the cruzs' and the t-party congressmen that are being cast out by the American People ....and FreedomWorks just gave Beck 1 million dollars to be a spokes person for them. Funny thing is if they operate a government like they operate their organization we would find ourselves in the same spending mess that got us to the 17 trillion $ debt that we have now because of GOP policies. You did see where FW is broke and barrowed 1 million to stay in operation too??

Of course you don't see McCain as a problem, politically, he's too much like Obama. Yes, 17trillion in debt and of course Obama's spending policies have absolutely nothing to do with it. The last 5yrs. of mega deficit spending is all the GOP's fault. The democrat majority house and senate that has not turned out a budget in that time are completely innocent. It's all just Republicans, excuse me, TEA partiers who have not had the clout to really effect the outcome.

No jp it is not all the GOPs fault but it for sure is not Obama's fault that the GOP congress prior to Obama becoming President passed spending bills without paying for them that are still in place and still costing and adding to the 17 trillion every day. policies like medicare part D , 2 tax cuts for the top 5%, 2 unfunded wars, bailouts of wall street and the auto industry. All GOP policies still adding to the 17 trillion. Take ownership of what you supported.
