Gun sense not nonsense

The gun debate has been going on for years.

I can remember when I was a kid, there were these bumper stickers everywhere.

It said, "They can have my gun when they pry my cold dead finger off the trigger."

I remember asking my dad to explain that to me.

 He did.

 That was the 1960's.

Since then, the pressure to leave gun owners alone has only becomes stronger.

This is from the Washington Examiner.

Economist Bryan Caplan notes that support for gun control, specifically banning handguns or pistols has decreased dramatically since the 1950's and 1960's.

Back in 1959, Gallup reported that 60 percent of Americans favored banning possession of pistols and revolvers, while now 74 percent oppose banning the possession of handguns, except by police.

Caplan seems puzzled by this substantial change in opinion. I think it's explainable by two developments.

 1. Violent crime roughly tripled between 1965 and 1975.

As Caplan's graph of Gallup's results shows that majorities came to oppose handgun bans during this period.

Americans saw more need to protect themselves.

 2. The success of laws permitting citizens to carry concealed weapons starting with Florida law in 1987 (thanks, Governor Bob Martinez).

Many, including me, predicted that this would lead to gunfights on the street and over traffic altercations.

 Thos predicitions have proved wrong.

It turns out that ordinary citizens who can demonstrate that they know how to handle guns do so responsibly, just as they hand cars (potential weapons after all) responsibly as well.

The very few exceptions make news.

Now more than 40 states have such laws and there is no significant move to repeal them.

As a result, Americans no longer see gun possession as a threat and oppose disarming the law-abiding population.

The writer thinks that's pretty sensible and so do I.

That's my point of view, what's yours?

anymore BS that you want to put out there deaf?

deaf you are speaking of the Federal Flight Deck Officer (FFDO) program not the armed pilots project . The current program has a budget of $25 million a year.
Why should tax payers be paying for a private corporation to train its staff when we have air marshalls?
If the air line company wants to have their pilots trained then they should be paying for it not the tax payers. I think that is called a Free Market and capitalism. This program is a socialist program to begin with.

deaf stated He has already, by executive order, stopped all importations of old WW2 guns from Korea.
Here are the executive orders and there were 2 deaf, 1the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives would require background checks for guns registered to a trust or corporation. That action is intended to close a loophole that allowed felons and others who are prohibited from owning a firearm from bypassing the background check process.

Here is the second one deaf , 2-prevent the re-importation into the United States of military-grade firearms that have been provided to foreign allies.
Are you in favor of military-grade firearms being on the streets of America deaf?
Are you in favor of felons and others who are prohibited from owning a firearm bypassing the background check process deaf?

In his first month in office, Obama overturned a 20-year ban on loaded guns in national parks and wildlife refuges.

That is a few Republican Presidents in that 20 years that banned guns in National parks.

We rated that claim Pants on Fire.

Deaf, looks like you are BS to me.

BS don.

Obama is on record in Chicago for demanding all guns be confiscated. He said that when he was a 'community organizer'. He has already, by executive order, stopped all importations of old WW2 guns from Korea. He has pushed for more gun bans after the school shootings. He as cut off aid to the armed pilots project. If he could get guns banned, he would. But since the House is controlled by Republicans, he can't do much. THANK GOODNESS!

Where is your proof , a link or something to back up your claim? Ain't good one , must be a lie.
Let me show you how proving something works.

CBS News/ July 23, 2012, 11: 26 AM/
Major Garrett: Obama has expanded, not reduced gun rights

If President Obama wanted to take our guns, I wonder why he expanded the rights of gun owners?

He did something that gun owners had been asking for, for years and trying to get Presidents Reagan, Bush Sr., Clinton and Bush Jr. to do but they all refused to expand the rights of gun owners.

Q: How many Dem states have taken people's guns?

Answer. New York, California, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Illinois, and others.

They all have bans on many weapons, magazine capacity limits, registration, waiting periods, etc..

Yet their crime rates are sky high.

And that is a fact.

Just go to California's website and find their banned list (yes LIST.)

Connecticut to. New York now has a 7 round magazine limit. Chicago totally banned all handguns.

And that is a FACT.

Guns in general are not banned in any of the locations that you claim deaf. Citizens can still buy and own guns in every state that you listed. AND THAT IS A FACT

Braking news...

Good Shepard Hospital in Longview just had multiple stabbings. One CHL holder could have stopped that but it's against the law to have a gun there!

The ONLY reason Carter, Clinton, and Obama have not taken up our guns IS THE NRA.

It sure isn't cause the Democrats haven't tried.

Hope for change in 2012. Lots of Democrats up for election, even some in Texas. Texas needs to be a Democrat free zone!

Sure would like to see some proof of that deaf? Just cuz you and the NRA say it is so does not make it so.

I would say that your log in name explains your comment perfectly..... Did you ever stop to consider that the ability to "Print" your own gun requires equipment that the average person couldn't afford... Not only that states are already banning the "Printing" of firearms.... But just like any law only the law abiding will follow it....

When I was in the army my training included improvised munitions. You can make a zip gun out of a piece of pipe. Anyone who wants to manufacture a weapon probably will, 3D printer or not. A problem we have is the wimpification of males in this society. I learned to shoot and handle firearms safely when I was a cub scout. Gun ownership isn't the problem. Our society and our government are the problem.

I remember when Carter was running for President and the GOP and NRA said Carter would be coming after our guns if he was elected.
I remember when Clinton was running for President and the GOP and NRA said Clinton would be coming after our guns if he was elected.
I remember when Obama was running for President and the GOP and NRA said Obama would be coming after our guns if he was elected.
I still have my guns, do you? The GOP & NRA must be full of liars.
