Happy to point out a real sportsman

For sports this is the best time of the year.

It's always exciting to have football going on. The baseball World Series is coming to a crescendo and basketball season is revivng up. But the older I get, the more difficult I find it staying enthused about
it all.

Football season was almost canceled because of a strike. Everybody complaining they weren't getting enough money. Although they all make enough money that most of us would be thrilled to be used by the man or get to be the man for that much.

The NBA season is stalled because of money.

And as soon as the World Series is finished tonight, the baseball hot stove league cranks up and I can assure you we'll all be agog at the off season signings of Major League Baseball.

During this all it has been refreshing to follow one guy in the sport of shooting.

He lives right down the road in Zavalla, south of Lufkin.

He's 28-year old Dustin Ellerman. This self-taught marksman runs a Christian camp down there. He just competed and won the History channels Top Shot national contest.

He competed against mainly military and police-trained marksmen. And he won.

His prize.

Compared to the sports I just mentioned not a lot, $100,00.

But in this sports season of me..me..me...

He's going to spend it to fix up his Christian camp.

Expand his family's 1200 square foot mobile home so they can take care of more foster kids.

Build a chapel at the camp and make thinks better for his wife and kids.

We all know soon he'll get back to a normal life after all the celebrity and speaking engagements he'll have for a while.

But during this time of all this big-time sports noise isn't it nice to see someone rewarded for his efforts and all those years of practice and he's actually grateful to win the prize he won?

That's my point of view, what's yours?
