Neal Barton's POV

Lets cut the spending, then raise taxes!

From the knock me over with a feather department, news from the Weekly Spectator this week.

According to the minority side of the Senate Budget Committee, $1.2 trillion of the proposed president Obama $1.6 trillion in tax hikes would go toward new spending.

While only $400 billion would go toward deficit reduction.

"The president's plan called for $1.6 trillion in new taxes, twice what the president asked for in the campaign. He asked for $800 billion during the campaign. Now he wants $1.6 trillion in new taxes," said Senator Jeff Sessions, the ranking member on the Senate Budget Committee, last week on the floor.

Sessions says "Our spending is growing. It is not decreasing. It is already projected to grow, but the President's proposal is to have it grow even faster than the law currently calls for."

The president and Republicans need to hammer out a deal. But all the media focuses on is there is no significant tax increases on the rich. That's all most people hear if they even pay attention to current events at all. The mainstream media stopped covering both sides years ago.

I heard one national reporter actually say yesterday-- and she was astonished -- "President Obama may not be even thinking of cutting entitlements."

Meanwhile, the money printing machines continue like there is no tomorrow.

That's my point of view, what's yours?

If there is no deal Obama stands to Tax the pants off everyone and blame it on everyone but himself. Obama wants spending increases, not paying down the debt. Wait and see.

Where are you Charles, JP, Sparrow, Old Turkey, Republicans, T-Partiers? Why aren't you on here telling use how sorry these public employees are and deserve to lose their jobs to cuts, lower their pay and lose their pensions.
Why don't you bad mouth public servents now like the police, fire fighters Teachers, Correctional Officers all who risk their lives for the public every day to keep YOU safe. DO NOT BE A BUNCH OF COWARDS NOW.

$250,000 is not wealthy. We will all go over a cliff if they don't cut spending.

Obama is in a win/win situation. He doesn't mind if we go off the fiscal cliff. He can blame the Reps and still get what he wants which is more spending which means more dependency.
I have been hearing about spending cuts forever and neither side cuts spending, but you can count on them to vote themselves raises shortly. I never hear of politicians sacrificing anything.

Yes! Way to often politicians say they will cut spending when they raise taxes but then sort of forget about it. With 16 TRILLION in debt we need to cut spending. If there is going to be another recession due to the fiscal cliff, well then I want some government workers to feel the cut to!

So if politicians like Obama want to 'spread the wealth', well let's also spread the misery. Cut government programs!

pov must be filthy rich...otherwise he would see how dangerous the GOP demand is that the rich get even greater tax cuts, and would realize that even the wealthy, who have made their fortunes in this country, should be more than willing to honor a reasonable tax payment to the country that has given them the opportunity to make huge sums of money...but poor ol' pov...pull the string in his back and you hear teavangelical repub talking points. Oh, does no good to talk sense to pov.
