Neal Barton's POV

Look, mom...I'm a terrorist!

POV

I've just heard from my agent and good news. I've passed the test.

According to the Department of Homeland Security, I'm a terrorist.

A new study funded by the Department of Homeland Security characterizes Americans who are "suspicious of centralized federal authority," and "reverent of individual liberty" as "extreme right-wing" terrorists.

The study, sponsored by your tax money, was produced by the National Consortium for the Study of Terrorism and Responses to Terrorism at the University of Maryland.

The organization was launched with the aid of DHS funding to the tune of 12 million dollars.

While largely omitting Islamic terrorism--  the report fails completely to mention the 1993 World Trade Center bombing-- the study focuses on Americans who hold beliefs shared by the vast majority of conservatives and libertarians and puts them in the context of radical extremism.

Maybe you can join our club and we can be in jail together.

- Americans who believe their "way of life" is under attack;

- Americans who are "fiercely nationalistic (as opposed to universal and international in orientation)";

- People who consider themselves "anti-global" (presumably those who are wary of the loss of American sovereignty);

- Americans who are "suspicious of centralized federal authority";

- Americans who are "reverent of individual liberty";

- People who "believe in conspiracy theories that involve grave threat to national sovereignty and/or personal liberty."

I'm not with the last one but 5 out of 6 ain't bad.

Lock me up big sis.

I know you won't waterboard me.

We can field a soccer team and have tournaments against the real terrorists in Gitmo.

That's my point of view, what's yours?

I'm again compelled to request that KETK take this stupid "Look Mom...I'm a Terrorist" junk off this site...how lame, crazy and monotonous can one man be?!? barton loves the limelight, plays beautifully to his ultra-right teavangelcal/repub audience, and is, sadly, pathetic in bringing attention to himself with his rediculous picture...KETK, get a life...give some positive news...and stand up to the hate-filled rhetoric of your "prized" news reader.

Oh, for Pete's sake...get barton's silly post off this site...if the shoe fits, wear it...but not proudly! I still wonder why I spend even a minute of my time reading barton's rants, let alone anything on the KETK site...it's always the same thing...hate for the president, the administration, progressive programs designed to help people in times of economic disasters-in-the-making, etc. Other posts I've made calling barton on the carpet have not been accepted...doubt this one will be, either.

That's right Neal, you're a terrorist and Ron Paul is a Kook all for the same reasons - Fascism is the new freedom Americans had better repsect.

Sounds like a list taken right out of Mao's little red book. If that's really the list, than I'm a terrorist too.

The project supporting the report was sponsored in part by START and the University of Maryland.
Based on a survey of prison policies in 15 countries, the report offers the most comprehensive study to date of the role prisons can play in radicalising people – and in reforming them.
The report identifies trade-offs and dilemmas but also principles and best practices that will help governments and policymakers spot new ideas and avoid costly and counterproductive mistakes.

At the recent Peace and Security Summit in New York, ICSR launched its latest report, Prisons and Terrorism: Radicalisation and De-radicalisation in 15 Countries. Sixteen of the world’s leading experts contributed to the report, which was funded by the governments of Australia, the Netherlands, and the United Kingdom, and carried out in partnership with the National Consortium for the Study of Terrorism and Responses to Terrorism (START), based at the University of Maryland.

Tell the whole story Neal, get some integrity why don't you? All you do is lie or distort the truth which is the same as telling a lie. Here is the report title, "REPORT RELEASE: ICSR/START Report on Prison Radicalisation to be Launched at New York Summit" dated July 2, 2010. Here is the link
