Tyler, Texas (KETK) — Just when I think the NFL cannot get any more "politically correct," they do something like this.
A new policy states that any off-duty cop cannot carry their firearm into a stadium.
We're taking police officers here. Most police departments I know mandate their officers be armed no mater what.
I think that is a good idea. One night if I'm at the store and some guy thinks he's going to start shooting people, I want someone who is mandated to shoot back.
A spokesperson from the NFL said this:
"We believe that the interest of public safety is best served by limiting the number of weapons inside stadiums to those required by officers that perform specifically assigned law enforcement working functions and game-day duties."
But, these are police officers.
When was the last time you heard of an officer shooting at someone during an NFL game.
I can see cutting down on the size of the bag you can bring to the game, but to not allow cops to have guns?
One naive Bears' fan said this:
"If they don't have their guns and no one else their gun, it would be a little safer."
Yeah, just like the Navy Yard.
Let's have no gun zones since all criminals obey the law.
A Chicago officer told a TV station, "If you don't have someone that could respond to a deadly-force incident that could cause more lives to be in jeopardy."
Another cop said, "You're never just a spectator, even when I'm off-duty, I'm supposed to get involved."
He says he is less inclined to attend a Bears game. I think I am too.
That's my point of view what's yours?
