The U.S. Senate seems to have struck a deal to expand background checks for firearms.

Last week, John McCain caved and closed the door to filibuster.

Then two other senators, Toomey and Manchin, surprised and went a long with the checks.

This means, the legislation might come to the floor for a vote where it will still be a chore to pass.

The Washington Times reports, "The director of the top trade group for gun retailers said expanding checks to include Internet and gun show purchases will drive up prices and push business to federally licensed firearms retailers, who in many cases will perform the checks for private sellers."

One expert says, that means when you buy a gun, you'll pay more money.

If background checks are required for all sales, he said, federal licensees could effectively corner the market, set their own transaction fees and pass the costs on to consumers.

Right now in East Texas, most federally licenses firearm dealers charge $20 - $40 to do a transaction.

If this bill passes, they can name their price.

That's my point of view, what's yours?

The only way to silence a "negative nellie" such as chuck is to post the truth, call out the lies, and set the record straight. No one seems to be able to make a dent in deef smith's continuous militant rants, but chuck is another story...the post below was the second time I'd told him I'm White and none of the foul things he called me, and, by his current few moments of silence, we've had blessed non-chuck in our midst. Not to worry, the ranter-in-chief of East Texas will rise again.

Flash - - - Gun Control goes down in flames!

Now maybe we can concentrate on keeping the bad guy's and wacko's from buying pressure cookers.

Don, you must add the likes of sheila, martha, and good old claudie marie to the list of those who are scared witless and dangerous at the same time...we're chasing windmills that don't exist when we call for civility, common sense, rational thought, compassion, reason, or any other normal attribute from the likes of deaf, charles, katie, jpttm, sparrow, or the ones mentioned above. It does little good to try to counter their hatret, fear and militancy. but we must at least try.

The anti-white racist snydergal lectures about rational thought when her cognitive prowess failed to recognize a lie told by the black female in Louisiana who accused the KKK of setting her on fire. You were rational that day Snydergal when you called whites rednecks, and never an apology. You and dumber than dirt Don make a good pair. Two government affirmative hires, one who hates whites, and the other afraid of losing his pension.

Gosh, it must be so painful to live as a redneck clown (no apology extended for posting the truth on this one)...as for your assumption that I am an anti-White racist, as I've told you before, chuck, I am, in fact, WHITE...get that, chuck...I am a patriotic and loyal WHITE American, a Christian, and, like you, have First Amendment rights to free speech. How about we just agree to disagree and leave it at that? I need a vacation from nasty rhetoric like yours...it's so boring!! 'Bye, y'all.

In District of Columbia v. Heller, 554 U.S. 570 the Supreme Court ruled that the Second Amendment "protects an individual right to possess a firearm unconnected with service in a militia,& to use that arm for traditionally lawful purposes, but also stated that "the right is not unlimited.

It is not a right to keep and carry any weapon whatsoever in any manner whatsoever and for whatever purpose". They also clarified that many longstanding prohibitions and restrictions on firearms possession listed by the Court are consistent with the Second Amendment.

WOW, Charles and Deaf both of you would be great fiction writers. I would bet that when a car backfires both of you either hit the ground or run and hide behind something. Both of you are dumber than dirt. Not everyone has the right to own a gun and nor should they. I think that both of you have a documented mental health problem and are scared that you would not be able to own a gun if gun ownership laws restricted the mental ill and a background check would reveal that both of you are crazy.

I am never so sure of anything as I am when government denies it. Deaf's right, this is a backdoor to gun confiscation and traitors like McCain are staunch supporters of the fascist fourth reich being built before our eyes under the cover of protecting America. Who would have thought Homeland Security could deprive a nation of ammunition, drive assault vehicles down our streets, and compile vasts amount of information on American citizens in less than a decade? The people of Germany didn't either

Amen sparrowgt! Well said.

It's all about registration. Forcing all transactions through FFL dealers would then allow the ATF to make 'rules' so all transactions are on paper, thus back door registration.

None of the school shootings used guns that the nutjobs bought WITHOUT background checks. See the nut that shot up the school got his gun from his MOTHER WHOM HE KILLED.

So it has nothing to do with stopping crime and all to do with GUN REGISTRATION.

Vote no. Remember this goes to the House to. Tell the VOTE NO!

Not necessarily true. Like with alcohol, everyone racing to get liquor licenses, many may scramble to get their licenses to do background checks. Vendors at gun shows sell guns, knives, jewelry, etc., and now background checks.
This is not to say I agree with the checks. They'll not end the violence, and only make it harder for law abiding citizens to get guns. But isn't that the goal anyway?

Another 'red herring".
North Korea says they will nuclear bomb us so what do we do???
Argue about licensing firearms that weren't even used in the school shooting.
. Or if the Kardachians are divorcing or if Ellen deGeneris is moving to Australia.
What kind of priorities do we have??
A straw man for sure.
