Tyler, TX — Here we are looking at Congress trying to bring debt levels down and get spending under control.
Then, this bit of news trickles out. Come to find out since President Obama took over, a new report says
the number of people using food stamps is up 40%.
40% in two years! What happened?
The report called "the note" states that 14% of America is on food stamps.
More than 44.5 million Americans received SNAP benefits in March, an 11% increase from one year ago and nearly 61% higher than the same time four years ago.
Nearly 21 million households are reliant on food stamps.
The cost of the food stamps program has increased rapidly since it was established by Congress in 1964.
It cost taxpayers more than $68 billion last year, double the amount in 2007.
Nutrition assistance now accounts for more than half -- or about 67% -- of the USDA's budget, compared with 26% in 1980
Republicans are trying to streamline the food stamp program. The administration is trying to loosen it.
We're hearing this is an attack on the poor. It's also an attack on those paying for it!.
There are those out there who are down on their luck. Right now, they need a hand and I'm the first to say let's help them.
But food stamps are not supposed to be a way of life. And there is no money tree in the back yard.
Just people trying to survive who I think pay enough taxes right now.
That's my POV, what's yours?
