Neal Barton's POV

What has become of us?

I was set today to speak about a government study which was recently published.

It stated that children being exposed to too much sex in TV and movies would allow their morals to go wobbly.

Really? It took government money to find that out?

I awoke this morning to the gut-wrenching news of the shooting in Colorado and realize the first topic was obsolete, at least for today.

So, I ask this question--- has the exposure to too much violence made us this way?

I understand in the movie there is a murderous clown heist.

The UK newspaper reports a man's face is fileted by a knife, and another's is burned half off.

It get's worse or better depending on your taste.

A child is threatened at gunpoint by a man with a melted face. It is all intensely realistic. Oh but don't worry, folks: there isn't any nudity.

I heard some of the young people in the newsroom talking this morning afraid people like me would blame the fun of a movie on some sick, twisted shooter.

I like gangster movies.

Maybe I need to look at what I am feeding my brain with as well.

But have we come down to this?

People who can't see the difference between a movie or real life?

Maybe we can't.

We watched cowboy movies and war movies years ago, and no one went home and started shooting other people.

I have owned firearms, but never have I ever point one at a human being.

I really don't know what's wrong with us. But our nation needs some deep healing and some prayer.

We are not the same people we used to be.

That's my point of view, what's yours?
