Tyler, Texas (KETK) — This past week, the IRS hearings have been on the radar again.
As much as some want this to go away, it's not.
USA TODAY published some new facts and pundit, Mike Huckabee, was the first to
Launch his thoughts.
That "phony scandal" about the IRS targeting conservative groups just keeps looking less and less phony.
USA TODAY has uncovered some more internal IRS documents from 2011. These show that the tax agents in charge of awarding tax-exempt status were specifically flagging groups whose literature they felt contained, "anti-Obama rhetoric" or "negative Obama commentary." More than 80 percent of the groups flagged for scrutiny for expressing a political viewpoint were conservative.
To show how heavy-handed the targeting was, one of the groups was completely apolitical, but they were apparently flagged because their name sounded like it was “anti-Obama.” They're called the Association to Reduce the National Debt. They wanted tax-exempt status so they could take donations to reduce the national debt.
A spokesman said it was the height of irony. For two years, the government prevented them from raising money they planned to give to the government! Maybe if they'd just explained they actually wanted to send the IRS even more money than they owed, they would've been flagged as “pro-Obama.”
Is this a government program, or what?
That's my point of view what's yours?
