UPDATE (9:54am): County Road 35 (Lavender Road) has reopened. No other County Roads are closed at this time. Please continue to drive with extreme caution during this period of unfavorable weather conditions.

Please contact Smith County Road and Bridge at 903-590-4801 to report County Road damage and issues. Call 9-1-1 to report immediate danger to motorists.

ORIGINAL REPORT: Smith County Road 35 (Lavender Road) has been closed between County Road 492 and Spring Club Road, due to multiple trees and power lines falling.

Smith County authorities tell KETK that Oncor and tree cutting crews are working to clear the road.

Meanwhile, there are more than 1500 customers in East Texas without power, as of 7:00 a.m. on Friday morning. The majority of reported outages are in Gregg, Upshur, and northern Smith County.

It is unclear at this time whether all of these outages are a result of the heavy rain moving through the area, but typically, with heavy rain and winds come downed limbs and power lines.

Power companies are working to assess the cause and repair all area outages.

KETK is also hearing of numerous minor car accidents this morning. Please remember to drive safely on the slick roads.
