Whitehouse, Texas (KETK) — Authorities returned the preliminary autopsy report on a body found behind a local business near Whitehouse Wednesday morning. However, officials have not been able to identify the body.
According to Justice of the Peace James Meredith, the decomposed body still needs to undergo a toxicology and histology report. A histologist will examine the body's tissue and cells for clues to the person's death.
Judge Meredith could not give an exact timetable for the the final report, but he did state some cases have taken upward of two to three months in the past. The body's identification also hinges on the Smith County Sheriff's Office investigation, said Meredith.
Dental records were also sent with the body to Dallas. According to Smith County Sheriff Larry Smith, the dental records were from a family in Whitehouse. He expects results to be back as early as Thursday.
Deputies were first alerted to the body on Monday afternoon when an employee at Nipper's Quality Auto Works discovered the body in a wooded area off Highway 110.
