With republicans hammering him as the "tax and spend" president , and hinting we're just days away from another summer of angry town hall meetings, President Obama goes to the midwest today to defend his multi-billion dollar bailout of the auto industry.

What sense does it make for the President to push the development of an electric car that only goes 40 miles per charge while pushing for Cap and Trade that will double or triple an electricity bill. Why did Obama kill the Hydrogen fuel cell car because it could go 224 miles per fuel cell? Only the Shadow knows.

As the Auto Editor here, let me clear a couple of things up. 40 miles is the distance possible on the Volt's battery alone, but the car essentially carries it's own gas-powered generator with it. That will take it over 300 miles on electricity provided by the unit. Volt has been in development for nearly 10 years.

No one killed the hydrogen fuel cell car, the research continues. My colleagues in the industry tell me it isn't as promising or practical as was hoped.
