With temperatures rising and the hottest days left in the summer July 31 is National Heatstroke Prevention Day.

The National Highway Transportation Safety Administration started the day to bring awareness and the dangers that heatstroke can cause to both adults and children.

The Longview Police Department teamed up with a local car dealership to show how dangerous it can be to leave a child in a car during the summer.

With temperatures nearly 40 degrees higher inside a car it only takes 10 minutes for the heat to effect a child.

This year so far 24 children have died from heatstroke from being left in vehicles.
