LONGVIEW - Despite the price of houses dropping 4.5 percent across the nation at the end of 2008, the texas real estate center reports the cost of a house in Longview jumped up almost two percent.
Mortgage Broker, Kenneth Travis said, "A lot of that is because increased population, theres a lot of people moving to East Texas from different parts of the country its a lower cost of living and a great place to live."
As the cost of a house increases Travis said, "Buyers are nervous about the market is going to do, their afraid to buy a house at maybe a higher price than what the national average is."
He said now is actually the best time to buy because rates are low.
LEDCO Director, John Stroud said this goes to show Longview's economy is still holding up and the city is fortunate to have a strong housing market.
