Clothes shopping for plus-size teens is one thing, while selecting the dream prom dress is another. Only about 16% of women's clothing in the U.S. is a size 14 and up. However, David's Bridal has about 300 stores across the country, with half of the company's prom-worthy choices coming in sizes 16 to 22, and they say interest in those sizes are growing every year.

"People say its just for one night, but really its for your whole life you remember your prom," said Brenda Harden, owner of Weddings A to Z Boutique in Tyler. Rows upon rows of gowns fill her store, which makes it difficult in the first place to decide which one to buy. After trying on mounds of dresses, its sometimes its just hard to find the perfect one. Especially if you think you're not the perfect size. "They have such a hard time they'll call and say do have something over a size 6 or 8 or 10 or 12," said Harden.

Harden says she sees the need for plus size prom dresses because "in the past they've just been kind of fuddy-duddy, not the cutest dresses, but I've made sure that I've got some really hot dresses for those plus sized girls." She says after ten years in the business, there's no better feeling than when she sees her client, no matter her size, find "the one." Harden recalls on one girl having her 'Cinderella' moment. "She was squealing, she was just so happy. She said I've never loved my dress before, I've always settled, and that stood out in my mind," said Harden.

However, Harden says sometimes the hardest dresses to find aren't always the largest. "The girls that are double zero, its just as rewarding to find them a dress, and its hard to buy zeros and double zeros because nobody else can try them on," said Harden.
