The good news: Home values are up in Lufkin and Angelina County.

The not-so-good news: When home values go up, the property taxes on the home may go up, also.

That could be good for municipalities and school districts trying to figure out their budgets for the upcoming fiscal year. It also could be good for people trying to sell their homes. But the average homeowner probably will may more taxes this year, even if the tax rates stay the same.

Home values rose about 3 percent in Lufkin this year, and about 2 percent in Angelina County as a whole, according to Chief Appraiser Tim Chambers. The average market value of a home in Lufkin is about $113,500, while the average market value of a home in Angelina County is about $97,000, according to the Texas A&M Real Estate Research Center.
