When it comes to beer, the big boys rule the roost.
Anhueser-Buesch, Miller and Coors are the 900 pound gorillas in the marketplace.
And they want to stay that way.
But beer sales are, pardon the expression, flat these days.
The one bright spot is microbrews…those small, local breweries who are making some of the most interesting suds these days.
But Texas laws make it tough.
And the large brewers have a lobbying group, the Wholesale Beer Distributors, and they have been very generous to Texas politicians, giving over $7-million over the last 3 years.
But Senator Kevin Eltife wants to break that stranglehold.
But the Ironically named Senator John Carona vows to fight, and if necessary, delay a vote to kill Eltife’s bill.
Carona is the 10th largest recipient of alcohol money in the senate.
So the David and Goliath battle goes on.
