An East Texas cardiologist was nominated for a Pulitzer, after capturing a tragic moment in American history on his camera.

Millions have now seen Dr. Scott Lieberman's photo of the Columbia space shuttle, breaking apart across the East Texas sky, but since that time, he has taken nearly half a million photos.

Now East Texans can get a chance to see the best of best of his collection,

The Tyler Museum of Art, located on the TJC campus, is currently hosting a gallery of Lieberman's work.

The gallery of photos range from nature, daily life, aviation, as well a pictures of celebrities, many of which were taken in East Texas.

But one area stands out, the section dedicated to the picture of the Columbia, which Lieberman says taught him about the power of a photograph.

"I learned after the shuttle picture that images had incredible power to tell a story, the kind of response we had from that image kind of taught me a lesson that there was a way to communicate," said Dr. Lieberman.

The exhibit will run through July 13th and museum executive director Chris Leahy says he hopes everyone who visits will be impressed by the images, and leave with an attitude, that they could create something as well
