Angelina County sheriff candidates Allen Hill, a narcotics investigator with the Angelina County Sheriff’s Office, and Greg Sanches, a retired Texas Department of Public Safety trooper, responded this past week to a series of questions from The Lufkin News in regard to their backgrounds and plans for the department.

Texas’ primary elections are tentatively set for May 29, although that date is not set in stone. Hill and Sanches are both running as Republicans, and both have been busy passing out campaign signs and visiting with voters. There is no Democratic candidate, so the winner of the Republican primary will replace current Sheriff Kent Henson, who is retiring.

Note that the order in which the candidates answer alternates on each question.

Q: Why do you want to be the next sheriff of Angelina County?

HILL: I would like to be the Sheriff of Angelina County so I can build a professional, ethical and efficient law enforcement agency dedicated to protecting the citizens of Angelina County, making it a safer place for our children and citizens to live.

SANCHES: I have a deep compassion for law enforcement and would like to see professionalism within the sheriff’s department moved to a higher standard.
