QUITMAN - The Quitman community gathered Friday night to remember the lost and pray for the hurting.

The vigil took place at the Spur On Church just south of Quitman.

Colton Otto considers himself fortunate that he could attend the youth prayer vigil. He says he was in the same car that 15-year old Skylar Carpenter was in during Thursday's tragic accident.

Otto says "Makes me feel bad it could have been me, but Skylar's going to be missed she always had a smile on her face."

And he also says, opportunities like this prayer gathering is just what the community needs right now.

They released it on the original news report. Her name is Debra Holcombe. She is the Agricultrual Sciences teacher at Quitman High School. By the way, she was not on using a phone. She may have been talking to one of her students, but she would be in trouble if she was using a phone, so she obviously wasn't. Mrs. Holcombe is a great woman, and i can't even imagine what she is going through right now. And honestly, it doesn't matter WHY this happened, but it did happen. All we can do now is pray.

Mrs. Holcombe teaches at the elementary school, not high school, btw.

If you have never lost a child u will never understand. It was her time to go or else God would not have took her. I have been there if you dont believe you will never get thru it. This is Gods plan not ours we want them longer but hey not our choice that belongs to the big man

Why is the media not revealing the name of the driver? I'll bet $1000 that she was either talking on the phone or texting when she lost control. The road was perfectly straight at the accident site, so she must have been distracted. How about some more information?
