Randy Travis is awake and stabilized
Dallas, Texas (CNN) — Doctors at Baylor Health Care System in Dallas say country singer Randy Travis is awake and stabilized.
Last week, Travis had an emergency surgery to relieve pressure in his brain following a stroke.
Doctors say Travis has what's called Idiopathic Cardiomyopathy. This means that Travis has a scarring on his heart muscle that is causing his heart to be weak.
Doctors say that drugs or alcohol don't cause the heart condition. In fact, according to physicians, Travis has a family history of Cardiomyopathy.
Travis at this time is breathing spontaneously with help of a ventilator, but doctors in Dallas hope to have him weaned off the device soon and breathing on his own again.
