Giants win World Series
ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) - Tim Lincecum, Edgar Renteria and the San
Francisco Giants won the World Series on Monday night, beating the
Texas Rangers 3-1 in a tense Game 5 and taking the trophy home to
the city by the Bay for the first time.
Renteria hit a tiebreaking home run off Cliff Lee in the
seventh, and Lincecum pitched three-hit ball over eight innings,
allowing Nelson Cruz's solo homer in the bottom half. Brian Wilson
finished for his first Series save.
It was an overdue victory - the Giants last wore the crown in
1954, four years before they moved west. So much for a franchise
that never quite got it done in October despite the likes of
baseball giants Willie Mays, Barry Bonds and Juan Marichal. It's
November, and now new names stand tall in San Francisco.
